To ensure that we follow strict social and environmental standards, we have
independent auditors and experts who evaluate our farms every
year and have full access to all workplaces, documents, and
employees.
Fairtrade represents an alternative to conventional trade and is based on cooperation between producers and consumers. Fairtrade offers producers fairer treatment and more profitable trading conditions. This allows them to improve their living conditions and make plans for the future. For consumers, Fairtrade is an effective way to reduce poverty through their everyday purchases. When a product bears the FAIRTRADE Certification Seal, it means that producers and traders have met Fairtrade criteria. The criteria are intended to correct the imbalance of power in trade relations, the instability of the markets and the injustices of conventional trade.

The Japanese Authority (MAFF) accredits CUC for the Organic Program (Organic JAS). Our global network of offices under the umbrella of the accredited headquarter in the Netherlands allows us to make certification efficient and economical, while maintaining the same professional audit and certification procedures.

QAI is a certifying agency accredited by the United States Department of Agriculture, USDA. QAI is approved to certify compliance with national organic standards, established under federal regulation created by the USDA and applied through the National Organic Program, NOP. Both the USDA Organic Seal and the QAI mark indicate that a product is guaranteed to have been verified as organic by meeting the strict USDA federal regulations for organic. As part of our USDA accreditation, QAI ensures that it continues to comply with each link in the organic production chain, actively updating programs and policies of the National Organic Program guidelines.

The principle of organic agriculture is the sustainable production of food on balanced and fertile soils. The farm must be managed according to organic regulations without genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and synthetics. During production and processing, organic and inorganic products should be clearly separated and contamination should be prevented. To reach the organic market, the entire organic production chain must be inspected. If all the requirements are met, the organic certificate can be issued and the applicable logo can be used on certified products.

Organic imports from outside the EU to must be covered by an Inspection Certificate (COI) issued through the European Commission’s IT tool ‘TRACES’. As of October 19, 2017, the previously commonly used Import Transaction Certificate (ITC) can no longer be used for imports into the European Union.
